Air conditioners provide many benefits for people that they’re not even aware of. Conditioners regulate the temperature in a room to the most comfortable levels; these provide an easy respite from outdoor conditions, and filter dirt and bacteria from the air. But, the third function makes the unit vulnerable to clogging, and it will need a spot of cleaning if the owners want it to last as long as it’s supposed to.
DIY Consultants
Now, cleaning air conditioners isn’t the most glamorous of chores, not is it the easiest. But, if you have a split system unit, just like the ones available in our online catalogue, there will be an outside unit that will be much easier to clean than most other models. All anyone needs is a vacuum, a damp cloth, and a hose.
Now, before anyone does anything to their units, it’s best to consult a professional who can either show you how it’s done or provide additional information that may make the process easier. Fortunately, our teams are full of such professionals.
Surface Cleaning
As with all things electronic, the power source should be turned off before anyone can start fiddling with the air conditioning unit. People can refer to their owner’s manual for the location of the off switch, or ask a professional. The subject of a cleaner’s attention is the condenser fins; these are the largest moving parts of the unit, and are more prone to dirt.
Second, a cleaner can start vacuuming the condenser fins of the unit. Standard vacuums are acceptable as long as the user has steady hands, and doesn’t drop it onto the fins. Use a soft bristle attachment to brush lightly against the fins.
Deeper Cleaning
Now that the surface dirt is gone, it’s time to get into the sticky mess that sometimes clings onto the fins. Unscrew the protective metal case protecting the fan, and use a damp cloth to wipe them clean. If the design of the unit has the fan under the grille, the cleaner will have to unscrew that too, and take out the fan. After it’s all done just put everything back the way you found them, and wait for a few hours for some of the wet parts to dry completely.
If this is starting to sound like a lot of work, then you’re better off hiring a professional to clean the unit for you.
